The novelist and playwright Alice Zeniter honored the Lycée Français Saint Louis with her presence on Wednesday, May 8.
Interviewed by Ms. Emmanuelle Matras-Swynghedauw, Conseillère de Coopération et d’Action culturelle at the French Embassy, Ms. Zeniter spoke very freely about her latest novel, The Art of Losing, winner of the 2017 Goncourt High School Students Prize.
The Art of Losing tells the story of a family, her own, but that could have been that of someone else, over three generations, since the existence of Ali’s grandfather, making his fortune thanks to an olive press in the mountains of Kabylie, to the very urban life of Naïma in Paris.
Between the two the question of the Harkis and the war of Independence was raised, and on which Mrs. Zeniter stopped at length.
Simple, frank and very pleasant to listen to, the novelist addressed a packed house that brought together not only students from LFSL but also students from Franska skolan.
